What are the Aggies options at quarterback for the 2023 class?

The Aggies missed out on their primary quarterback target for the 2023 class when Austin Novosad affirmed his commitment to Baylor on Monday evening, but the A&M staff knew all along that was a possibility, so we know they’ve been working on alternatives.

One such alternative, and an EXTREMELY good alternative seemed to pop onto the radar out of thin air over the weekend, when the #2 quarterback in the country, Malachi Nelson, made a surprise appearance in College Station for the annual pool party and Coach Price’s Bar-B-Q.

Nelson has been a commit to USC since Lincoln Riley moved from Oklahoma (Nelson’s prior commitment) right into the young QB’s back yard in southern California.

It is important to note that Nelson committed to USC before Caleb Williams announced his transfer out west, but it’s been months since that decision, and until this weekend, there were no signs of Malachi wavering in his commitment.

A flip, like Nelson, could be an option for the Aggies for the 2023 class, as others, like Dante Moore and Jaden Rashada have been A&M targets who wound up committing elsewhere, but those are more likely to be last minute flips closer to signing day in December or February.

If A&M wants an earlier commitment, their choices will be extremely limited, considering that of the nine signal callers who’ve received offers from the Aggies, only 3 star Vegas prospect Marquis Roby Jr. remains uncommitted.

One other option… Just punt on the 2023 quarterback class, and get to work on 2024 prospects like DJ Lagway, Jadyn Davis, and Julian Sayin, each currently 5-star prospects holding offers from A&M.

Get an early commitment from one of those guys, and let them pair with new defensive line commit Dealyn Evans pulling additional guys into the fold throughout the year.
