What are Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa Offensive Rookie of the Year odds?

The Miami Dolphins may or may not be aligned to put their new star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa behind center when the 2020 NFL season kicks off, but the uncertainty doesn’t seem to bother the bettors. Across the NFL landscape, you’ll only find two NFL rookies with better odds to be named the league’s 2020 rookie of the year, according to BetMGM. As of the end of last week, Tagovailoa trailed a couple of former LSU Tigers in the eyes of the BetMGM oddsmakers.

  • Joe Burrow, QB, Cincinnati Bengals +240
  • Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB, Kansas City Chiefs +600
  • Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Miami Dolphins +900

Perhaps the biggest barrier for Tua’s chances to claim the hardware? Bengals QB Joe Burrow will see no competition in the team’s quarterback room for the starting gig. The Bengals released veteran quarterback Andy Dalton late last week, which has cleared the path for Burrow to be the unquestioned starter in Cincinnati.

That obviously won’t be the case in Miami, as the Dolphins will have veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick ready to hold down the starting gig while the team ensures Tagovailoa’s dislocated hip is indeed fully healed. Rightfully so, too. The Dolphins have much bigger fish to fry than seeing Tagovailoa win hardware as a rookie in 2020 — ensuring his long-term health and success should take priority, even if that comes at the cost of getting their new face of the franchise onto the field by Week 1.

But that said, the odds on Tua certainly make for an interesting debate for those who feel Miami will be more willing to get him into the action sooner rather than later.
