The Seattle Seahawks are on a bit of a roll. After starting the year with a surprising blowout loss, they have won their last two games, and have looked markedly improved in each of them. Now they head east to the site of their Super Bowl XLVIII triumph to play the New York Giants.
This is a rematch from Week 8 in 2022, where Seattle took the Giants to the cleaners in a 27-13 win that was not nearly as competitive as the final score might indicate. The Seahawks held Saquon Barkley and the New York rushing attack in check last year, and now Barkley likely won’t suit up tonight.
It’s been a rough start to the season for the Giants. After being humiliated in a 40-0 thrashing in Week 1 against the Cowboys, the Giants barely squeaked out a 31-28 win over the Arizona Cardinals – in a game they trailed 20-0 in the first half. Unfortunately, New York followed up their heroic comeback with a 30-12 blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
The Seahawks, on the other hand, have looked better each week they’ve played. They’ve scored 37 points in their last two games, and their defense is slowly but surely improving. Returning for Seattle is star safety Jamal Adams, who will not only provide a boost to the secondary, but also the hit-or-miss pass rush. In fact, tonight could be the first night to feature Adams, Riq Woolen, Devon Witherspoon, Julian Love and Quandre Diggs all playing together.
Prediction: Seahawks over Giants 27-21
The Giants have not looked good, but they are also coming off extended rest having last played on Thursday Night Football. This was a playoff team a year ago, and they should be playing with pride in front of their home crowd. New York’s top man, Brian Daboll, took home Coach of the Year honors last year in his first season. He has shown an uncanny ability to squeeze every last bit of talent out of this roster.
But the Seahawks are rolling right now. Their offense still struggles to finish drives in the end zone, but they can move the ball up and down the field. Geno Smith is as efficient as ever, and the way running back Kenneth Walker III is playing will frighten any rush defense.
I expect New York to put up a better fight than many might assume, but Seattle prevailing. After all, Monday night is Seattle’s night. The Seahawks hold the NFL record for best win percentage on Monday Night Football.
