Week 1 snaps counts for Jets against Ravens

Week 1 snap counts for the Jets

The snap counts are out from the Jets’ Week 1 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Let’s take a look at how the Jets worked all their players on Sunday.

On offense, the Jets played 84 snaps. Quarterback Joe Flacco and the five offensive linemen played all 84. After that, the most playing time was seen by tight end Tyler Conklin, who saw 77 snaps (92 percent of the snaps). There’s an interesting note there because, for as much as the Jets wanted to show 12 personnel, C.J. Uzomah played just 23 snaps (27%). As ESPN’s Rich Cimini notes, Conklin is the “receiving” tight end and the Jets were throwing the ball pretty much the entire fourth quarter. Lawrence Cager saw just 10 snaps (12%).

The running back distribution between Michael Carter and Breece Hall was probably about as expected for Week 1. Carter played 50 snaps (60%), Hall saw 38 snaps (45%). We may continue to see a near 50/50 split going forward.

All five wide receivers saw action Sunday. Elijah Moore led the way with 75 snaps (89%), followed by Corey Davis with 57 snaps (68%), Garrett Wilson with 41 (49%), Braxton Berrios with 39 (46%) and Jeff Smith with 10 (12%).

Switching over to defense, we see 56 snaps on that side with four players playing every snap. LB C.J. Mosley, CB Sauce Gardner, CB D.J. Reed and safety Lamarcus Joyner. Jordan Whitehead played all but one snap.

The interesting note on defense was Saleh and the coaching staff rotating their defensive line. DT Quinnen Williams led the way having played 36 snaps (64%). Nathan Shepherd, Jermaine Johnson and Jacob Martin saw the fewest snaps but all still played 19 snaps (34%). The rest of the defensive line went Sheldon Rankins with 30 snaps (54%), Carl Lawson 29 snaps (52%), John Franklin-Myers 28 snaps (50%), Micheal Clemons 24 (43%) and Solomon Thomas 20 (36%).

Among the linebackers, Mosley played every snap and Quincy Williams played 51 snaps (91%). Kwon Alexander played the fewest of the three but still saw the field on 67% of the snaps, 37/56.

Rounding out the group, we have NB Michael Carter II with 18 snaps (32%), CB Bryce Hall with 5 snaps (9%) and one each for CB Brandin Echols and safety Tony Adams.

On the special teams side, Justin Hardee, Martin and Jamien Sherwood both played 22 snaps to lead the charge.

Following them was 18 each for Marcell Harris and Ashtyn Davis. 17 for Clemons; 16 for Jermaine Johnson and Echols; 14 for Uzomah; 12 for Adams; 11 for Berrios; eight for Jeff Smith and Shepherd; six for Mosley, Gardner and Whitehead; four for Quinnen Williams and Michael Carter II; three for Conklin and all the starting offensive linemen except McGovern; two for D.J. Reed and Quincy Williams and one for Alexander, Rankins, Lawson, Franklin-Myers and Thomas.
