We should all be thankful that we’re not the New York Jets

The Jets are a mess. Again.

It’s Week 11 of the NFL season… which means the New York Jets season is basically over.

This tends to be true just about every season but it is especially true this season because my goodness are things going badly for the New York Jets.

I mean, did you see what they are doing this week against the Dolphins? They are starting Joe Flacco at quarterback. Joe. Flacco. In the year 2021 a coach has looked around his locker room and pointed at the 36-year-old guy in the corner who hasn’t started a game since last November and said, “You’re my guy!”

It was a stunner of a move by first-year coach Robert Saleh, not because rookie Zach Wilson isn’t ready to return from injury yet but because just a few weeks ago Mike White became the toast of the town with a 405-yard game in which he threw three TDs and caught a big two-point conversion in a win over the Bengals. Sure, he stunk last week against the Bills but at least he’s not some old fella who hasn’t won a game in a long time.

Look at what Saleh had to say about Flacco. Make sure you’re not drinking anything or you will have to clean it off the wall after taking in these lines:

“Joe’s got a history. He’s in the record books all over the place. He’s a world champion, so he’s got a history of playing good ball. One drive didn’t solidify anything; it’s his history more than anything. He’s seen these type of defenses many times over.”

Speaking of history, Flacco started for the Jets against the Dolphins just last season. How’d that go? Not well. At all. The Jets lost 24-0, Flacco completed less than 50 percent of his passes and had an interception. Need some more Flacco history? He started four games last year for the Jets and lost all four.

Not all history is good history.

If we’ve learned anything over the years it’s that the Jets will always make bad moves no matter who is the head coach and that is no different this year –  they’re 2-7 and there and without.

You know what else the Jets are without? A defense that can stop teams. The Jets’ defense is the definition of bad. If you look up the word bad in the dictionary it will have a picture of the Je… it will have the definition of the word bad… but whatever, you get what I’m saying.

The Jets have given up 175 points in the past four games. 175 points in four games! The Jets are last in points allowed, giving up an average of 32.9 per game. Last in the league! And this is all happening with a head coach who was brought in because he was considered to be a very good defensive coach during his time with the 49ers.

Yikes.

Anyways, it’s Week 11 and a lot of NFL teams (like the Patriots, who face the Falcons tonight) are still very much alive and ready for what should be a frantic final stretch of the season.

The Jets, though, are not one of those teams.

Yet again.
