We know the Badgers aren’t winning national championships, but what about sending first round picks to the NFL?

Nobody needs a reminder that the Wisconsin football program isn’t winning national championships like their counterparts at Clemson, Alabama and Ohio State.

For teams who, since 2000, haven’t been able to call themselves national champions, though, where do they rank in terms of sending first round picks to the NFL?

The answer is No. 2 behind the Georgia program which would’ve won a title had Tua Tagovailoa not burst onto the scene in the second half and overtime and stolen the game away.

The most surprising part of this placement at No. 2 is the Badgers rarely welcome in four and five-star recruits, unlike the schools next to them on the list including Tennessee, Georgia and Michigan.

If I told you without showing this graph that since 2000 the Badgers have had more first round picks than Clemson, Auburn, Tennessee and Michigan you would probably think I was crazy.

So, national championships aside, what this program has done since Barry Alvarez‘s tenure as coach–and is currently doing under Paul Chryst–is an impressive feat and should not go unnoticed.
