It was 2nd and goal from the [autotag]West Virginia Mountaineers[/autotag] five-yard line. There was about eight minutes to go in the 4th Quarter.
Oklahoma Sooners’ quarterback [autotag]Dillon Gabriel[/autotag] took the snap and slowly moved to his right before cutting hard to his left, bursting through the hole for a touchdown. It was his record-setting eighth (five passing and three rushing) touchdown of the game.
Gabriel finished the day with 423 yards passing and completed 63.9% of his passes. He also added 11 carries for 50 yards.
Gabriel spoke with the media after the game and quickly deflected on his record-setting night. “It’s cool,” Gabriel said. “Not necessarily the record, I think from the past two weeks and today, just how we responded.”
It wasn’t just Gabriel. The offense as a whole was rolling this week putting up more 644 yards of total offense, the most in 2023. Gabriel said it was their mentality that made the difference.
“I think we just came out with an edge,” Gabriel said. “I think we came out ready to play. Just the physicality up front and everyone who played.”
The Sooners and their offense finally fought back after two lackluster weeks. But it doesn’t stop there. They still need to finish the season strong.
It won’t be easy with the two games they have left. They head on the road to play [autotag]Big 12[/autotag] newcomer, the [autotag]BYU Cougars[/autotag]. They then wrap up the season with a Black Friday game against the [autotag]TCU Horned Frogs[/autotag].
