WATCH: Wisconsin legend Russell Wilson finding his groove in NFL preseason

Highlight from Wilson’s preseason debut:

It is somewhat surprising former Wisconsin Badger and current Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson played almost an entire half of his team’s preseason opener this week.

The NFL as evolved greatly over the years, one evolution being coaches prioritizing health over reps before the official season begins. This sees nearly all of the league’s top players sit out most if not all of the preseason game action.

Wilson played, though. In the Broncos’ 18-17 loss to the Cardinals he completed 7 of 13 passes for 93 yards and 1 touchdown.

After a year full of missed throws and a lack of connection with his wide receivers, Wilson’s first preseason touchdown pass went to former top draft pick Jerry Jeudy. If the Broncos are to turn it around, that connection must work exceptionally all season.

Here’s the play:

I’m sure new Head Coach Sean Payton looks at the quarterback’s struggles last year and thinks positive momentum from preseason action could lead into more success during the season. Only time will tell whether that strategy works.
