WATCH: When did Danny Ainge know it was time to step down as Boston Celtics team president?

The Celtics lifer fell on his sword for the good of the franchise, but when did he know it was time?

It was not all that long ago that the rough start of the 2021-22 season for the Boston Celtics was more or less how the ENTIRE 2020-21 season went for the team, and that came on the heels of a season before it that wasn’t much better for fans of the team.

Now of course we know it would result in the biggest shakeup to the team’s front office in over two decades. Brad Stevens hired his replacement as head coach after stepping into the role of president of basketball operations once  Danny Ainge resigned.

When did Ainge know it was time to hang it up as Celtics head honcho? What made up his mind? This still-unclear watershed moment’s timing is still something of a mystery and the topic of conversation of a recent episode of the CLNS Media podcast “Celtics Beat”.

From the comfort of a season that seems to be going better, watch hosts Adam Kaufman and Evan Valenti talk with famed beat writer Dan Shaughnessy about the exit of the iconic Celtics GM and player from Boston  in the clip embedded above.
