Freshman starting quarterback C.J. Stroud was on the bench last week to get some rest after favoring his shoulder through the team’s first few games. Rutgers other signal callers Kyle McCord and Jack Miller both had an opportunity to show what they had in a dominant victory over Akron last week. When asked about Stroud’s status for the game at Rutgers, Day said:
“I’m optimistic that coming off of Sunday’s practice, and the feedback that I’ve got from the trainers and from our medical staff and from C.J., that we’re ready to move forward this week.”
Day also added that if Stroud does play but struggles, he won’t consider putting McCord into the game if Stroud is struggling “any more than a couple weeks ago.” Stroud won Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors in the first two weeks of the season.
On Rutgers and Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano: “I think he’s done a very good job these last two years of getting his team ready.”
Day says Rutgers played excellent defense in the fourth quarter against Michigan. The Ohio State head coach also thinks Rutgers has been “executing what they’ve been asked to execute” and says the team seems to be buying into what Schiano “has been preaching to them.”
