Former Texas quarterback Vince Young knows a thing or two about what it takes to have a successful collegiate career in Austin.
Since his playing career ended, Young has been heavily involved in the Texas football program and is often seen on the sidelines of practices and games. In February, the University of Texas athletics department hired him as a special assistant.
“So happy to share my knowledge and experiences, reach out in the community, and serve the school I love,” Young stated shortly after the hiring became official.
First-year head coach Steve Sarkisian has seemingly already built a close relationship with the former Texas star and invited him to come speak to the team as fall camp began.

Young noted the huge opportunity that these Texas players have in front of themselves and to take advantage of every teaching moment. “When you step into those meeting rooms, don’t waste the coaches time. They’re giving you the answers to the test to go outside and be great,” he said.
Among the numerous motivational messages that Young shared, he acknowledged that it’s not an easy job. “Everybody wants to play Texas, everybody wants to go to Texas, and everybody knows what Texas is about.”
