Recruiting websites may have him listed as a linebacker, but five-star Harold Perkins is one of the best athletes in the 2022 class.
For Cy Park High School, Perkins is playing on the offensive side of the ball as well. His athleticism was being taken advantage of as a running back. Lining up in a triple-option formation, the quarterback tossed it back to Perkins and the rest was history.
51-yards to the house, with ease.
In all honesty, Perkins should have been taken down in the backfield for a loss but a nice stiff arm to the defender’s face eliminated the possibility. After reversing field, five other Cy Lakes players had the chance to tackle the five-star but had no such luck. His speed a strength was just too much.

This kind of athleticism is why Texas is trying to recruit Perkins for more than just a linebacker role. Terry Joseph is one of the primary recruiters, showing a defensive back influence. The Longhorns believe Perkins can play almost a linebacker/safety hybrid in Pete Kwiatkowski’s defense.
Tom Herman’s staff fell behind but Joseph and Jeff Banks have gotten right back into the thick of Perkins’ recruitment. He was in Austin last weekend for the Texas Tech game. To win out, getting a few more trips to the 40 Acres will be necessary.
On the 247Sports composite, Perkins is the No. 16 overall player and the No. 1 linebacker in the country. Within the state of Texas, the Cypress native ranks as the No. 4 prospect.
