An offseason ago, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers was struggling. Practice reports strongly indicated that Ewers was not separating from Hudson Card in the Longhorns’ quarterback battle. The lack of separation revolved around Ewers’ inconsistency and Card’s consistency.
Things have changed this offseason. Ewers has been reportedly more consistent at delivering the ball where it needs to go, knowing his teammates’ assignments and asserting himself as the vocal leader of the offense. That’s fine to hear for most Texas fans, but the fan base would rather see it in action.
We saw some of what Ewers’ improvement looks like in action on Wednesday. The Texas starter threaded the needle between Longhorns defenders to AD Mitchell in an impressive throw.
To be sure, the second-year starter made throws like the one in question last year. Ewers flashed in his freshman season despite a handful of off-target throws. Nevertheless, the throw reminds Texas faithful of why so many view him as a unique talent at the quarterback position.
This side arm pass from Quinn to AD was filthy 🤧 pic.twitter.com/4QV8Km2m2S
