Texas held a makeup practice on Saturday due to the COVID-19 interruption last week.
It appeared to be physical, emotional, and rowdy throughout every position drill. The most important takeaway from the highlight reels of practice is how the special teams is now operating.
The Longhorns have had numerous games come down to special teams performance over the last few seasons. First-year head coach Steve Sarkisian landed one of the best special teams coaches in the country in Jeff Banks and he’s not afraid to use his best players.
Inside Texas reported that Josh Thompson, D’Shawn Jamison, Chris Adimora, and Kitan Crawford were all notably excelling as gunners on special teams. In the video below, Jamison (5) powers through two players to set the tone.

It certainly looks like Banks is setting the culture on special teams. Highlight reels are fine and dandy, but we’ll have to wait until September to see if this translates onto the field when it matters.
Regardless, this video is the perfect epitome of what Sarkisian preaches: “All Gas, No Brakes” and “It’s an all-the-time thing.”
