Watch: Rutgers lacrosse gets a clutch overtime winner from Shane Knobloch against Michigan in a statement win

Rutgers men’s lacrosse has a gutsy, if ugly, home win over Michigan.

It wasn’t always pretty from Rutgers lacrosse on Friday night. But following a late-game collapse, No. 12 Rutgers got an overtime winner to beat No. 18 Michigan at SHI Stadium.

And in doing so, Rutgers got a massive 13-12 result over Michigan which is quite the boost for their resume and postseason ambitions.

The golden goal from junior midfielder Shane Knobloch saw Rutgers through to an impressive win. Following their defeat of Michigan, Rutgers is now 8-3 (1-2 Big Ten). Had the Scarlet Knights not gotten a home win on Friday night, an NCAA Tournament berth would have been unlikely.

Up 9-4 in the third quarter, Rutgers saw the visitors go on quite a run, including three unanswered goals in the game’s final eight minutes of regulation to close out the game,

Rutgers rebounded in overtime, winning a hard-fought and crucial opening faceoff to score 38 seconds into overtime. Knobloch, a midseason All-American, took control of the ball following a timeout and drove to the net where he scored from eight yards out and a tight angle.
