The Carolina Panthers have picked their new general manager. Scott Fitterer comes to Carolina via Seattle, where he worked on the scouting side. Fitterer knows there’s more to the job than just identifying talent. He told reporters today that team owner David Tepper grilled him on analytics and cap questions during his initial phone interview.
Those are essential elements to the job. The draft is the main course, though and how successful these Panthers will be in the next five years will depend a great deal on how well Fitterer navigates it. He didn’t give away too many specifics, but Fitterer did share some of his draft philosophy with the media today. Here’s a clip.
