The Irish offense needed a spark after a very sluggish start. Navy had held the Irish out of the endzone through the majority of the first half with Jack Coan in at quarterback.
During the fifth series, offensive coordinator Tommy Rees decided a change needed to be made and inserted freshman Tyler Buchner. He was the igniter the Irish offense needed, as they marched 66-yard in 11-plays to finally score the first touchdown of the game. It was a mix of passing and running that helped the Irish move down the field and the most consistent weapon on the offense found the endzone, running back Kyren Williams on this play to take a 10-3 lead over the Midshipmen.
