Watch: Notre Dame quarterback Pyne preparing for spring battle

This battle will be intense

The Irish played three quarterbacks during last season, with Jack Coan getting the lions share of snaps when healthy. It was Tyler Buchner and Drew Pyne getting the other reps and each of them showing flashes of their future potential.

Pyne got into two games, Wisconsin and Cincinnati, while Buchner got reps in five games, playing more but not really much as a passer. Each of them threw for less than 300-yards on the year, but Buchner’s legs gained 336-yards showing he is a true dual-threat.

With Coan moving on, this spring will be very telling as to which quarterback will take the first snap against Ohio State in the season opener. Pyne however, is training like he wants to be the starter. In a tweet by QB Country, it looks like Pyne isn’t just going to succeed the job to Buchner in the coming weeks.

Spring practices begin on the 27th of this month and after 14 practices it concludes with the Blue and Gold game. We will all soon have a much better idea of who Marcus Freeman is leaning to be his starter come September 3rd.
