We are in the midst of a global pandemic that has threatened the current state of college football. After seeing two Power Five conferences shut down, there are many who expect the other three — and others — to eventually follow suite.
But in the wise words of ESPN College GameDay host Lee Corso: “Not so fast, my friend.”
Alabama is part of one of the conferences still pressing ahead towards a season starting on Sept. 26, and while it’s not a guarantee that still happens, head coach Nick Saban believes it is important to keep college football going.
Why? Because of the players.
Check out this tweet from Ryan Hennessy, a sports reporter from WTVM 13, which was posted during Saban’s meeting with the media on Monday afternoon.

For those who cannot view the clip in the tweet, here is what the Crimson Tide’s head coach had to say:
“We have a lot of people out there working really hard. Everybody acts like we want to play for the money. We want to play for the players. I want to play for the players.”
He then went on to talk about players creating value in themselves in the eyes of NFL evaluators:
“We have a lot of guys on our team that can create a lot of value for themselves by playing this season.”
It’s a topic worth discussing, and we are glad that Coach Saban continues to stress the importance and impact of college football!
