Watch: Marshawn Lynch scores amazing touchdown, finishes unfinished business

Marshawn Lynch came back to the Seahawks to erase the ghosts of a missing touchdown run. Mission accomplished.

On December 15, Marshawn Lynch was in the “C” lot of the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, handing out tequila shots to mourn the end of the Raiders’ latest stay in Oakland.

It’s Lynch’s home town, and he’d played in Oakland in 2017 and 2018 before injuries hastened what seemed to be a second retirement. Lynch had first hung ’em up after the 2015 season following nearly six years with the Seahawks, and he hadn’t played for any team since Week 6 of the 2018 season.

But after the Seahawks lost all three of their top running backs — Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny and C.J. Prosise — to injury late in the season, head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider reached out to Lynch to see about a reunion. It became official on December 24, when Seattle signed Lynch for Week 17 of the regular season and as far as the Seahawks made it in the playoffs.

Lynch had talked about “unfinished business,” and we all knew what that meant — the interception Russell Wilson threw to Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler late in Super Bowl XLIX at the end of the 2014 season. The overwhelming opinion was that had Seattle given the ball to Lynch from the New England one-yard line, the Seahawks would have been the first team since the 2003-2004 Patriots to win consecutive Super Bowls.

Late in the first half of Seattle’s wild-card game against the Eagles at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, Lynch showed just what “unfinished business” was all about with this tremendous five-yard touchdown run.

That put the Seahawks up 10-3 at the half, and allowed Lynch to get a bit of his own back regarding the biggest “what if?” in franchise history. We’ll see if he’s able to transact more business in the postseason.
