When Landon Collins signed with the Washington Football Team two years ago, fans expected big things from the former All-Pro safety. Now in his third season, things haven’t gone as expected for Collins in Washington.
Throughout the offseason, there was talk of a position change, with Collins moving to linebacker. Collins denied the move, so did coaches.
However, after struggling in coverage through the first several games of the 2021 season, Washington asked Collins to move to linebacker, and the seventh-year pro acquiesced.
Collins has played linebacker in recent weeks, and, as expected he has done well playing closer to the line of scrimmage.
In the first half of Washington’s Week 8 game at Denver, Collins made one key stop on running back Melvin Gordon that led to the WFT defense getting off the field. On Denver’s next series, Collins brought down Denver quarterback Teddy Bridgewater for his first sack of the season. It led to another Broncos’ punt.

Washington’s defense has a ways to go yet, but moving Collins to linebacker has been a good move for all parties involved.
