After a challenging week, Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford finally returned home to his daughters and his wife Kelly caught the moment on video and posted it on social media.

Roughly 10 days ago, Matthew came into close contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19, and per NFL guidelines, he needed to isolate immediately and progress through the NFL/NFLPA’s agreed-upon protocols.

This meant that Stafford needed to be isolated in a hotel, separate from his family and the team, as well as receiving five consecutive days of negative test results. Kelly took to her Instagram to update fans that the entire Stafford family had all tested negative for COVID-19 — Matthew would also eventually test negative on all of his tests.

On Saturday, Kelly was back on social media, this time posting that one of her and Matthew’s daughters (Hunter) had fallen and suffered a concussion. A scary moment for any parent (and child), and one that was made even more difficult with Matthew in isolation. Matthew initially broke quarantine and headed home to help, but Kelly eventually found someone to help her, and fortunately, the situation was remedied safely. Matthew was able to return back to his hotel and continue following the isolation procedures.

That allowed Matthew to played against the Vikings on Sunday, but halfway through the fourth quarter, he was taken down hard and his head hit the turf awkwardly. He was examined for a concussion and was medically cleared, but did not return to the game. He also suffered a neck injury that would land him on the injury report this week — but he is practicing in full, which is another fortunate outcome.

After the game’s completion, Stafford discussed with the media how difficult his week was — our buddy Jeremy Reisman covered this well at Pride of Detroit — and indicated that he was still not able to return home to his family as he had yet another night of quarantining to fulfill.

Now, with the quarantine process complete, and everyone healthy, Matthew was able to finally return home to his family, and his wife Kelly captured the heartfelt reunion between him and three of his four daughters on video.
