John Wolford won’t get the chance to start for the Rams in 2021 after the team agreed to acquire Matthew Stafford from the Lions, but he should almost certainly be on the roster as the backup. While that might not be the role he was hoping for, his journey in the NFL as a potential starter in the future isn’t over.
Wolford is putting in work this offseason and his recent workout on the practice field was with CFL wide receiver Fabian Guerra Jr. and Rams wideout Van Jefferson. Guerra shared the video on Twitter, showing Wolford throwing perfect passes to all levels of the field.

Had the Rams not agreed to trade Jared Goff for Stafford, Wolford would’ve had a chance to compete for the starting job, according to reports. The Rams were expected to have an open competition in camp and although Wolford is inexperienced, he did show promise in limited action last season.
He’ll have to wait his turn and it may never come with the Rams, but at the very least, he’s a quality backup for Los Angeles to have.
