The Arizona Cardinals had three takeaways on defense in Week 1 against the Washington Commanders. They added another against the New York Giants in the first half.
The Giants, trailing 17-0 in the second quarter, finally got some momentum on offense, picking up a pair of first downs.
However, on second down from the Arizona 36, Daniel Jones’ pass to running back Saquon Barkley bounced off his body and into the waiting arms of safety Jalen Thompson.
He returned the interception 35 yards to the Giants’ 34-yard line. It was his first pick of the season and sixth of his career.
The Cardinals took a 20-0 lead on a 44-yard field goal after the takeaway.
