Watch: Family celebrates as Alex Smith is officially cleared for football activities

Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith has been cleared for football activity.

How about some joy in the COVID-19 throttled world? Check out the family of Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith after he learned Saturday he is cleared officially for football activities.

Smith suffered a compound fracture in his left leg that required more than 15 surgeries since 2018.

Smith, a former No. 1 overall pick of the San Francisco 49ers who also played for the Chiefs, will be in competition for the Washington job with Dwayne Haskins, who struggled as a rookie after being a first-round draft pick from Ohio State.

Smith is expected to be activated off the PUP list as soon as Sunday.

“If Alex is healthy and continues to get healthy and we do activate him, he’s going to be in the throes of this competition,” coach Ron Rivera said last week. “It’s going to unfold very nicely as a football team for us because competition is only going to make you better. It’s going to push the young guys as well.”
