WATCH: Every Brian Robinson Jr. carry from preseason game vs. Chiefs

Brian Robinson Jr. has emerged as the top contender to start at running back for the Washington Commanders.

Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. debuted in the first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers by dominating one drive and finishing it with a touchdown.

In that same game, returning starter Antonio Gibson fumbled, an issue he battled in 2021.

Then, in practice last week, Robinson and Gibson split time working with Washington’s first-team offense. In the second preseason game, Robinson started.

Does that mean we have a changing of the guard at running back? Robinson carried the ball eight times for 31 yards in the 24-14 preseason loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. While he didn’t put up huge numbers, Robinson looks the part of an NFL starting running back.

Here is every Robinson rushing attempt from Saturday’s game against the Chiefs.

The Commanders haven’t announced a starting running back. Gibson had two carries in Saturday’s game and also finished with three receptions. The former college receiver could be featured more in the passing game this season, with Robinson taking over some of Gibson’s backfield duties.

Certainly, Washington’s backfield will be even better in 2022.
