WATCH: E.J. Liddell soars for put back dunk vs. Akron

The Ohio State basketball team has officially broken the seal on the 2021-2022 season with an in-state matchup with the Akron Zips.

And if there’s a Buckeye game taking place, there’s a good bet that forward E.J. Liddell is working on his craft on the hardwood and pouring in some points. Sure enough, Liddell has been active and effective early on at the Schott.

You expect Liddell to hit some mid-range jumpers, clean up the boards, do some dirty work in the paint, and step out from time to time to nail some shots beyond the arc, but in the first half, he also showed his ability to get up and throw one down.

It came off of his own miss on a free throw. Liddell missed the second of two free throws, but Zed Key was able to position himself, corral the rebound and put a second-chance baby hook up. Key was a bit off the mark, but Liddell timed the miss perfectly off the rim, snuck in on the backside, and was able to attack the rim for a second  — scratch that — third chance opportunity.

Watch Liddell do some of his finest work and show a part of that all-around game he brings to the court every night.

Ohio State stretched out the lead to double digits late in the first half, but there’s still a long way to go in this one. Here’s to seeing more of this type of high-flying highlights the rest of the way.
