Former Alabama cornerback Trevon Diggs was selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys. In his first practice with the team during training camp in preparation for the 2020 season, Diggs has already made a good impression.
Diggs, who was named to the first team All-SEC in 2019, played a prominent role in his senior season. In his final year with the Crimson Tide, he accumulated 37 total tackles, eight pass deflections, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries and a defensive touchdown.
Prior to the 2020 NFL draft, Diggs was expected to be selected either late in the first round, or early in the second. When he was selected in the middle of the second round, many were surprised and believed the Cowboys got a steal.
Though the team has only held one official practice, Dallas’ new head coach Mike McCarthy likes what he sees in Diggs.
“Very smooth,” says McCarthy. “He looks like he’s transitioning very well, so far. We’ve only had one practice, but the thing that jumps out to you on the practice field is particularly his ball skills. He’s a natural. I think he’ll adjust very well to the NFL game.”
This is high praise coming from a head coach with a Super Bowl under his belt.
