New Orleans Saints safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson helped his defense hold the Denver Broncos offense without a pass completion in the first half by picking off an errant throw, his first interception of the season and just the second of his career. His first pick came off of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan last season.
It’s the latest impressive moment for Gardner-Johnson, who has also proven to be a force in run defense and an important part of the Saints’ success on that side of the ball. His ability to make plays on the ground while lining up as a nickel defensive back gives the Saints rare flexibility, which they’ve put to good use in what’s shaping up to be an 8-game winning streak.
