It was maybe the best moment of the 2020 NFL Draft on Thursday night, when the New Orleans Saints selected former Michigan center Cesar Ruiz at No. 24 overall in the first-round.

While there were several funny moments — such as former Oklahoma wide receiver Cee Dee Lamb stealing his phone back from his girlfriend, or NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announcing that Las Vegas would host the draft this year instead of the intended 2022 — Ruiz’s selection was the most touching moment, as he reacted emotionally to his selection.

ESPN gave the background: Ruiz lost his father at 8 years old and never saw him play football. He grew up in the rough and tumble Camden, New Jersey before making his way to IMG Academy in Florida and then Ann Arbor.

All-in-all, it was a touching moment that wasn’t merely just cheers as much as it was heartwarming.
