Midway through the third quarter, the Washington Football Team appeared lifeless on offense. Left tackle Charles Leno and star wideout Terry McLaurin both had left the game due to injury.
Washington badly needed a spark. Wide receiver Cam Sims delivered.
On a first-and-10 from the Dallas 43-yard line, Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke rolled to his left and launched a ball deep into the end zone to Sims, who was covered by Dallas cornerback Trevon Diggs.
Diggs had great coverage, but that wasn’t enough as Sims somehow came down with the football. Officials initially ruled Sims was out of bounds. Upon further review, it appeared Sims’ hip landed inbounds and, it was indeed a touchdown.
Washington coach Ron Rivera challenged the call, and the officials reversed it. Washington was finally on the scoreboard due to a tremendous throw by Heinicke and an even better catch by Sims.
It was pure beauty.
