WATCH: Boston Celtic forward Gordon Hayward takes a chess lesson

Check out this video of Boston Celtics star forward Gordon Hayward trying his hand at chess.

You often hear about chess matches between coaches — but what about chess matches with players?

Of course, the type of chess usually being discussed in reference to coaches is the metaphorical sort, a battle of wits and tactics resembling the cerebral game in ways.

But Boston Celtics veteran forward Gordon Hayward decided to pick up the literal variety over the last few months, presumably to offset boredom in Disney bubble downtime.

He ended up connecting with a chess coach who also produces videos for YouTube, and the pair put together some film of a very different sort than Hayward usually relies on to improve his game, filming a lesson for the Butler product linked below.

So if you happen to be of the sort who is in the middle of the Venn diagram of fans of both pastimes, or just want to see how Hayward does in this new pursuit, check out the video embedded above to see the Indiana native try his hand at high-level chess.
