One day after the New York Giants stunningly upset the Seattle Seahawks on the road with Colt McCoy at quarterback and seemingly took control of the NFC East, the Washington Football Team pulled off an upset of their own.

On a rare Monday afternoon game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, quarterback Alex Smith led Washington to an improbable victory that thrust them right back into the divisional race.

It was the first time in NFL history that a team trailing by 10 or more points came back to defeat a team with 10 or more wins and no losses.

Needless to say, between New York and Washington, jokes about the futility of the NFC East are likely to die off. At least for now.

Unfortunately for the Giants, what would have been an essential two-game cushion in the division has now become a head-to-head race. On the positive side, New York holds the tiebreaker over Washington having beaten them twice this season, but the remaining schedule favors the WFT.

The Giants will wrap up their year hosting the Arizona Cardinals and Cleveland Brown in back-to-back weeks before traveling to Baltimore to take on the Ravens and then returning home for a Week 17 game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Washington will visit the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday before hosting the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers, and then closing out their year on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles.

It was once joked about that the NFC East champion would need just five or six wins, but as the final quarter of the season shapes up, it looks like the eventual champ will need seven or eight.
