The Washington Huskies lost the series against the USC Trojans on Saturday in Los Angeles.

The Washington Huskies couldn’t get back on track on Saturday, losing their second straight game against the USC Trojans. Coach Jason Kelly’s team played excellent defense, turning multiple double plays to help keep them in the game, but couldn’t overcome USC’s offense.

Center fielder Austin Overn went 2 for 3 with a triple and a home run, recording 3 runs batted in and 2 runs scored, while left fielder Kevin Takeuchi went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs. First baseman Dean Carpentier added a solo home run as part of an onslaught that led the Trojans to a 9-5 victory.

The Huskies wouldn’t go down without a fight, as they scored 3 runs in the ninth inning fueled by RBI doubles from second baseman Aiva Arquette and left fielder AJ Guerrero. First baseman Jeter Ybarra also went 2 for 4 in the loss.

Calvin Kirchoff took the loss for the Huskies, falling to 2-3 after starting the game and allowing 4 hits and 3 earned runs while walking 3 batters over 2 1/3 innings. Tyler Stromsborg earned the victory for the Trojans, tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 2.

The loss moves Washington to 9-14-1 on the year and 3-8 in Pac-12 play while the win pushes USC to 14-16 this season and 8-5 against conference opponents. The two teams will finish off the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:00.
