Washburn: I don’t like the Boston Celtics’ trade of Grant Williams

Washburn acknowledges that the Celtics may not have had a choice due to other signings and Grant’s restricted free agency status, but that doesn’t mean we have to like the return.

Not everyone is excited about the return the Boston Celtics obtained by trading restricted free agent Grant Williams to the Dallas Mavericks: two second-round draft picks and a $6.2 traded player exception (TPE).

Among those unhappy is the cohost of the CLNS Media “A-List” podcast, Gary Washburn.

In a recent episode of the pod, Washburn expressed his dissatisfaction with the Williams trade, citing the lack of value in second-round picks. He believes it’s not an exciting move and questions the team’s use of trade exceptions in the past as well. Losing Marcus Smart and the Charlotte native affects the team’s identity, too.
