Warriors vs. Pistons: Killian Hayes exits early after suffering injury

Pistons rookie Killian Hayes left the game on Tuesday with an ankle injury but would not return after being ruled out by the team.

Detroit Pistons rookie Killian Hayes suffered a sprained right ankle on Tuesday night versus the Golden State Warriors and was eventually ruled out of returning, the team announced during the game.

Hayes went scoreless in 17 minutes of work during the 116-106 loss as he missed all four of his shot attempts from the field. Pistons head coach Dwane Casey said after the game that Hayes tried to play through the injury in the second half but was ultimately unable to continue.

The 19-year-old will be considered day-to-day following the game.

Hayes has started in each of the Pistons’ four games to this point, averaging five points, 3.5 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 21.8 minutes per game. The Pistons play next on New Year’s Day, which will give Hayes some additional time to undergo treatment and rest on his right ankle.

Detroit dropped to 0-4 on the season with the loss but kept the game close until midway through the fourth quarter. Casey said the team committed several rookie mistakes late but was pleased with how his squad executed throughout the evening.
