Steph Curry will have to make some room in his trophy case. After eliminating the Dallas Mavericks in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals, the Golden State Warriors point guard earned some hardware.
For the first time, Steph Curry was awarded the inaugural Earvin “Magic” Johnson Western Conference Finals Most Valuable Player award. In 2022.
The league introduced new trophies for the MVP of both the Eastern and Western Conference finals. The Western Conference trophy was named after Johnson and the Eastern Conference was named after Larry Bird.
Before Curry could get his hands on the new trophy, Draymond Green grabbed his teammate and lifted him up in celebration.

After Curry earned the inaugural award, Magic Johnson took to Twitter to congratulate the Warriors star.

Curry is coming off a quiet performance in Game 5, scoring a series-low 15 points on 5-of-17 shooting from the floor with two 3-pointers on seven attempts from deep. The two-time Most Valuable Player added nine assists, three rebounds, two steals and a block in 34 minutes.
For the series against the Mavericks, Curry averaged 23.8 points on 44.4% shooting from the floor and 43.9% shooting from beyond the arc with 7.4 assists and 6.6 rebounds in 34.8 minutes. Curry notched 31 and 32 points in both Game 2 and Game 3 against Luka Doncic and the Mavs.
Curry and the Warriors will now await the winner of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat. The Celtics currently hold a 3-2 advantage over the Heat heading into Game 6 on Friday.
