Injury was no small factor in the Boston Celtics’ last win, a 126 – 107 blowout of an undermanned Memphis Grizzlies squad on Wednesday. It figures to be less of one for their New Year’s day tilt with the Detroit Pistons, who could still miss as many as four of their players for the game.
The Pistons will be without starting power forward Blake Griffin, who is working his way through the league’s concussion protocol, as well as second-year reserve point guard Frank Jackson, who has yet to join the team this season for undisclosed reasons. Rookie floor general Killian Hayes is listed as questionable with a right ankle sprain, while big man Jahlil Okafor is dealing with the same issue, listed as probable.

The Celtics are only listing starting point guard Kemba Walker (knee), wing Romeo Langford (wrist) and Javonte Green (health and safety protocols for COVID-19) as out on their end.
The former two are working their way back to health from injury and the latter being held out to ensure no new positive tests for the virus behind the pandemic occur.
