Vols swept in SEC play for first time since 2019

Tennessee baseball swept in SEC play for the first time since 2019.

Missouri (16-3, 3-0 SEC) completed a series sweep versus No. 2 Tennessee (15-6, 0-3) in a doubleheader Sunday at Taylor Stadium in Columbia, Missouri.

The Tigers defeated Tennessee, 7-4, in Game 2. Missouri won the series finale, 7-1.

Missouri scored three runs in the first inning off Vols’ starter Chase Burns (2-1), who recorded 10 strikeouts in the contest.

In the fourth inning, Tennessee’s Maui Ahuna hit an RBI single. The Vols scored a run on a solo home run by Griffin Merritt.

Zane Denton pulled Tennessee within three, 7-4, with a two-run home run in the seventh inning.

Missouri took advantage of three Vols’ errors and scored five unearned runs in the series finale.

Tennessee scored its lone run when Hunter Ensley hit a pinch-hit RBI single that scored Jared Dickey in the fifth inning.
