Vols defeat Southern Miss, advance to College World Series

Tennessee defeats Southern Miss to win Hattiesburg Super Regional and advances to the College World Series.

Tennessee (43-20, 16-14 SEC) defeated Southern Miss (46-20, 22-8 Sun Belt), 5-0, Monday in game No. 3 of the NCAA Tournament Hattiesburg Super Regional at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

With the win, Tennessee advances to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, for the second time in three years and the sixth time in program history.

Tennessee led, 1-0, in the second inning after Griffin Merritt hit an RBI single.

Tennessee extended its advantage to, 4-0, in the fifth inning on a three-run home run by Zane Denton.

The Vols scored one run in the seventh inning on a solo home run by Maui Ahuna.

Drew Beam (9-4) pitched six innings for Tennessee, allowing seven hits and one walk, while recording seven strikeouts.

Chase Burns made a second consecutive relief appearance of the series, earning his second save. He recorded four strikeouts for Tennessee.
