The University of Tennessee football program is 4-1 all-time in contests played on Sept. 4.
Tennessee first played a game on Sept. 4 during the 1982 season, losing to Duke, 25-24.
The Vols have won four consecutive contests on the date since. The win-streak started during the 1993 season, defeating Louisiana Tech, 50-0. Wins followed against Wyoming in 1999 (42-17), against Tennessee Martin (50-0) in 2010 and a neutral site victory against Georgia Tech in 2017 (42-41, 2OT).
Tennessee played the Yellow Jackets in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta, Georgia.
