KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee first fielded a football team in 1891.
Vols Wire will look at each calendar date that Tennessee has played on its history of the program.

University of Tennessee football holds a 4-3 all-time record in contests played on Sept. 1.
The Vols first played on Sept. 1 during the 1984 season, defeating Washington State, 34-27, at Neyland Stadium.
The Vols have also been victorious on the Sept. 1 date during the 1990 (Pacific), 2001 (Syracuse) and 2016 (Appalachian State) seasons.
Tennessee has suffered losses to California (2007), at UCLA (2008) and West Virginia (2018) on Sept. 1. The contest against the Mountaineers took place in Charlotte, North Carolina.
