KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee first fielded a football team in 1891.

Vols Wire takes a look at each calendar date that Tennessee has played on in its program history.

The Volunteers have played 15 times on this date and they have compiled  a record of 6-9.

Tennessee first played on Oct. 18 in 1913 when it lost to University of the South, 17-6. In 1919, the Vols lost to Mississippi A&M 6-0.

The Vols shut out Carson-Newman, 13-0, in 1924.

Longtime rivals Tennessee and Alabama have played 10 times on Oct. 18. The Crimson Tide won, 18-6, in 1930. Alabama prevailed again in 1941 as it posted a 9-2 victory. In 1947, the Tide shut out the Big Orange 10-0.

Tennessee claimed a 20-0 win over Alabama in 1952. The Volunteers won again in 1958 when it edged the Crimson Tide, 14-7.

In 1969, UT routed Alabama 41-14. The Crimson Tide prevailed, 30-7, in 1975. Alabama shut out the Vols, 27-0, in 1980.

In 1986, Alabama won 56-28. Tennessee posted a 38-21 victory in 1997.

The Vols routed Mississippi State, 34-3, in 2008.

The Volunteers last played on Oct. 18 in 2014 when they lost to Ole Miss, 34-3.
