The Vols first played on August 30 during the 1987 season, defeating No. 16 Iowa, 23-22, in the Kickoff Classic V. The contest was played in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Tennessee defeated Texas Tech, 52-17, at Neyland Stadium to kickoff the 1997 season.
The Vols were also victorious over Fresno State, 24-6, to open the 2003 campaign in Knoxville.
