Texas has rehired former Longhorns quarterback and College Football Hall of Famer Vince Young as a special assistant in the athletic department.
After Young’s NFL career came to an abrupt end, he accepted a full-time role at Texas as a career development officer. The position eventually became part-time and Young was let go in 2019 due to poor performance.
The salary and details of Young’s new role is not yet known, but former Texas running back and Heisman Trophy winner Earl Campbell is also a longtime special assistant for the Longhorns.
It was a smart move for Texas athletics director Chris Del Conte. Bringing in a well-known name around the Austin community will continue to build on the momentum of the recent hiring of head coach Steve Sarkisian.

Sarkisian continues to check off all of the boxes. He understands the importance of having former players involved with the team, what better player to have on your side than one of greatest college football quarterbacks of all time?
