Vikings’ “#Skol” slogan ranked third best Twitter hashtag in the NFL

Skol is a phrase Minnesota Vikings fans have grown familiar with.

Vikings fans have a song and a chant that features the word “Skol” in it, and on Twitter, the team uses the “#Skol” slogan quite often.

USA TODAY’s Nate Davis recently ranked all the NFL team’s hashtags, and he gave the Vikings high marks for theirs. Davis tabbed “#Skol” third best Twitter slogan in the NFL. Here’s what he said:

“Such sweet symbiosis between Norse culture and the team’s battle cry, which produces one of the coolest pre-game images in the league when Vikes fans are clapping in unison while chanting “Skol!” full throat.”

As reported by Sports Illustrated, the phrase Skol comes from the Swedish, Danish and Norwegian word “Skål,” which refers to a bowl that was often filled with beer and shared among friends. The word ended up becoming a way of saying “Cheers.”
