Despite the Vikings drafting a cornerback in the first round, there’s a compelling argument to be made that the position is still a need for Minnesota.
That need is one step closer to being fixed, with the Vikings taking Mississippi State cornerback Cameron Dantzler at No. 89 in the NFL Draft Friday.
In addition to the 89th pick, the Vikings also have the 105th overall pick in the third round.
Dantzler is undersized, but he proved that didn’t matter too much in college. He gave up only 11 catches from 23 targets for 171 yards in SEC games in 2019.
For the Vikings, I think he’d be a great fit at nickel corner. We’ll have to see whether Dantzler can win a starting spot out wide at cornerback, but he has Jeff Gladney, Mike Hughes, Holton Hill and others to compete with. Either way, he can fit into the Minnesota defense one way or another.
