The Minnesota Vikings have a need at cornerback and it continues to be a trendy one for analysts. I mean, why shouldn’t it? The Vikings only have three cornerbacks on the roster and need to fortify the position in a major way.
Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling agreed, becoming the fourth analyst this week to mock the Vikings’ South Carolina CB Cam Smith. Here is what he had to say about the Gamecock defensive back.
“Minnesota’s terrible defense eventually caught up with them in the postseason, sending them to an early exit. They need to address it at just about every level this offseason, and the best value in this scenario comes at corner. Opposing quarterbacks learned quickly to test Smith at their own risk, and he dominated despite facing top competition on a weekly basis in the SEC.”
The addition of Smith would be a great one for the Vikings as he can play both inside and outside. That ability would allow them more flexibility to ensure their best three were on the field in their base nickel packages.
