Vikings OLB D.J. Wonnum (torn quad) out for season

Another brutal injury for the Vikings

The hits just keep on coming for the Minnesota Vikings.

According to ESPN’s Ian Rapoport, Vikings OLB D.J. Wonnum suffered a partially torn quad against the Detroit Lions and will miss the rest of the season. He suffered the injury when rushing the passer and went down in non-contact fashion.

It’s a brutal blow to an already depleted defensive front. The Vikings already have three players from their front on injured reserve.

  • OLB Marcus Davenport
  • DE Dean Lowry
  • DE James Lynch

In Wonnum’s place, OLB Pat Jones II will get the starting job and his performance on Sunday. Rookie Andre Carter II also will likely get more snaps which will help his development.

It’s not just a brutal blow for Wonnum and the Vikings for this season, but the fourth year pass rusher from South Carolina is set to be a free agent this offseason. After having a career year, Wonnum looked to be able to cash in on a sizable contract. Things could look a little different now.
