Vikings GM Rick Spielman: I don’t know if we would have traded Diggs to an NFC North team

Rick Spielman said that he didn’t know if the Vikings would have traded Diggs to the Lions, Packers or Bears.

Wide receiver Stefon Diggs was traded to the Bills in exchange for draft picks this offseason.

Spielman has said numerous times that the team was not looking to trade Diggs at the time, but they received a deal that was too good to pass up.

On the podcast PFT PM, Spielman recently added that Buffalo not being in the division or even the conference, helped the trade.

Here’s what Spielman said about the situation:

“I don’t know if we would have traded him to Green Bay or Detroit or Chicago… but it does help when you can get him into a different conference than us potentially playing against him,” Spielman said on PFT PM.

Personally, I don’t mind trading Diggs to a team in the same division if that team was offering the best assets in return.

I think it obviously hurts a bit to have to play against a wide receiver like Diggs twice a season, but still, the Vikings know more about Diggs than the majority of the wideouts they go up against. It seems like the Vikings at least got a big haul from the Bills for Diggs, and now Vikings fans don’t have to watch him play for a bitter rival close to home.
